Ralph Boschung withdraws from Barcelona F2 round with neck injury

Ralph Boschung will take no further part in the FIA Formula 2 round at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya due to a neck injury sustained during the previous event at Imola.

Since the weekend in Italy, where Ralph took third place in the Feature Race, the Swiss driver has taken medical advice and met with specialists in the hope of being fit for this round. However, the pain and discomfort Ralph suffered during Free Practice yesterday was too much, especially under braking, and the Campos Racing driver could not perform to his full potential.

Ralph also considered the risk of making his injury worse, so the safe and sensible decision was to withdraw from the meeting and return to Switzerland to continue treatment and ensure he is fit for next weekend’s round in Monaco.

Ralph Boschung: “I’m really disappointed not to be able to drive this weekend. We had a strong round at Imola and I was hoping to continue our momentum in Barcelona. I’ve tried everything with my medical team to recover to full fitness and be on top of my game here, but after a few laps on track yesterday I knew it would not be possible with the pain I was feeling, especially under braking. I’m sad for the team, I wanted to give them a strong result in their home race and I wish Olli all the best for the rest of the weekend. I’m also sorry for my faithful partners The Moon, Casa Andrea and L by Raphaëlle and I’ll now be working hard with my medical team to be fit for Monaco.”
