Ralph Boschung takes Feature Race podium at Imola

Ralph Boschung matched his best-ever FIA Formula 2 result with third place in Sunday’s Feature Race at Imola, taking the third podium finish of his F2 career.

The Campos Racing driver put in a great performance during Friday’s delayed qualifying session, grabbing fourth on the grid in wet conditions to equal his best position to date. The result means Boschung is the only driver to qualify in the top five at every round this season so far.

Starting seventh for Saturday’s Sprint Race, Boschung was on course for a points finish until a fuel pump issue forced him to retire on Lap 10.

A quick launch off the line on Sunday saw the Champéry driver move up two positions and into second place on the opening lap. Challenging for the lead throughout the race, Boschung crossed the line to finish in third, taking his third podium in F2.

FIA Formula 2 moves to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for Round 4 on 20-22 May.

Ralph Boschung: “It was great to have a strong weekend here at Imola, and I’m delighted to be back on the podium. I started well, going fastest in Free Practice despite the conditions and the delays, and I was happy to take fourth in qualifying. I lined up in seventh for the semi reverse-grid Sprint Race, but unfortunately we were forced to retire with a fuel pump issue.

“I got a great start in the Feature Race to move up to second and then it was all about controlling my pace throughout the Safety Car periods and making sure to look after the tyres. I’m delighted to take third place and my first podium this season, and now we’ll focus on continuing our strong form and aim for more results like this in Barcelona.”
