Ralph Boschung fights at the front in Sochi

Ralph Boschung continued his strong form in the FIA Formula 2 championship last weekend in Sochi, battling for pole position, scoring points in the Sprint Race and running in the top three for most of the Feature Race.

Following a promising weekend at Monza, the Swiss driver had immediate pace in Russia, ending Practice second fastest. After the first runs in qualifying, Boschung was sitting on provisional pole, ending the session in fifth, his best ever qualifying result in the series. Boschung started the only Sprint Race of the weekend in a reverse-grid sixth place, holding position until the chequered flag to score four points. In Sunday’s Feature Race, Boschung worked his way up to third and looked set for a podium finish for 23 of the 28 laps. The Campos driver was still looking good for a strong haul of points before a puncture unfortunately ended his race three laps before the chequered flag.

The next Formula 2 event takes place at a brand new circuit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 3-5 December.

Ralph Boschung: “I’m really happy with our performance in the last few rounds, even if the results haven’t quite been what we were looking for. The car has had great pace all year, we were challenging for pole in Monza and again in Sochi, which is very pleasing for me. We battled hard this weekend, the weather made it tricky but we held our own against some front runners to score points in the Sprint Race. I was feeling good ahead of the Feature Race and we got a great start, moving up to third. Unfortunately, a puncture ended our race. A disappointing end to another strong weekend, but we now look ahead to the final two races of the season in December.”
